Exterior Property Manager

Our houses are such unwieldy property that we are often imprisoned rather than housed by them.  -- Henry David Thoreau

window and fence

Make money at home as one who maintains the exterior of properties in your area.  Add consulting and landlord to your business expertise.

Exterior Up Keeper

The Baby Boomers are getting lazier now.  They are too busy to wash their windows, patch their fences, and climb on the roof to clean out their gutters.  This is your audience and your business.

Boomers need help shoveling snow, repainting their address numbers, replacing the mail box, fixing the cracks in the sidewalk, replacing light bulbs in the porch lights, and trimming the shrubs.

They need help planting the tulip bulbs, killing the fire ants, getting rid of the carpenter ants, and the squirrels in the attic.

You will need to repaint the porch and repair the porch railing.  You will repair window screens, rack leaves, and haul trash.

The exterior of the house needs to be patched, cleaned, and repaired on a weekly basis.  Just as the cleaning crew comes once a week to clean the inside of a home, so does the exterior property manager need to come around to take care of the outside.

Property Management  Consultant

Perhaps your customers want you to cordinate all the exterior jobs such as overseeing the landscaping crew and the pool maintanence crew.  You might also call in the handyman to do the tougher chores.

As you become more comfortable with exterior repairs, move up to Handyman yourself and learn indoor chores as well such as plumbing and electrical repairs. You might not want to do all these repairs yourself, but you should know what is involved and have a portfolio of names of experts who can do the job.

Just as large apartment complexes have property managers, so homes need the same service -- on a smaller scale.

By provding this service you might be able to extend the length of time retirees are able to stay in their beloved homes before moving into a retirement community.

 Landlord

As you become proficient in home repairs, you might consider buying rental property as a business venture. It will help if you can do most of the upkeep yourself to save money.
