Poker is growing in popularity across the United States.  Congress is looking into the additive qualities of it.  Harvard is looking into the educational aspect of it.  Lawyers play poker for the cognitive skills, risk assessment, and statistics learned from the game.

We suggest an entrepreneurial business of holding charity poker tournaments in your backyard.  Players pay to enter the tournament to pay for your time and expense in setting up the tournaments.  Winners do not receive any money.  All monies go to charity.  Check out our Philanthropist page for ideas.  Players receive a prize and maybe some coupons provided by local business establishments.  You are not going to be running a gambling establishment in your backyard.  You are teaching thinking skills and providing an opportunity for a community gathering in the fresh air.  This will get the kids away from their video games and the T.V.

If you aren't sure poker is for you, or you don't know how to play, take this into mind: someone you know probably has played before and can teach you and playing cards with others brings you face to face and promotes conversation in a fun environment.  It is a great way to spend time with friends and family, especially during the holidays.  You are bound to share a good time and laughs when you play poker with others!
