Backyard EntrepreneurTM Wishing Well Investor If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting. -- Benjamin Franklin
Make money working at home making wishing wells -- selling them and renting them for parties. Create Garden Art Wishing wells are an attractive addition to either a front yard or back yard. If you decide to build one on-site, you may incorporate stone work, in which case you need to be prepared to do some heavy lifting. Or, you can make wishing wells that are constructed entirely of wood. These all-wood wishing wells are lighter and can be shipped to the buyer, in kit form. Rent Wishing Wells for Parties You may also want to have inventory on hand to rent out for special occasions. These would be for weddings or other events. For these rental uints, you will want to include a circular painted plywood cover to use as a table top. Make Desktop Versions of Wishing Wells Small tabletop or desktop versions of wishing wells are cute and useful. Advise the buyer that these desktop versions make great gifts if you stuff them with cash. Paint some white with silver accents; they can be used at wedding receptions to collect cash for the lucky couple. They can later be used to hold potted plants. Some other desktop models should include a cover on the well with a small slot on top; sell these as savings banks. Sell Just the Plans for Wishing Wells Create several designs and sell just the plans. There is also a DIY market for folks who have the time and talent and just delight in building things.
Teach Building Nest Eggs There is nothing more perfect for a Backyard Entrepreneur than growing money. Be certain that you add one additional service as you create imaginative wishing wells for profit: teach others to save their money. Make speeches, send out newsletters, or add a set of instructions in every wishing well you sell or give away. Maybe the title could be: "How to Build a Nest Egg." Or "Grow Your Own Money for Fun and Profit". Advise readers to consider doing some of the following: 1) do not incur debt in making retail purchases (except in an emergency); 2) when you make purchases with credit cards, pay them off when you get your monthly statement (i.e., don't carry a balance); 3) include simple straightforward instructions in your lectures on how to save money; 4) reference websites which have compound interest calculators so that your readers can see how compounding builds wealth by adding interest on top of interest; 5) remind your reader that hs is not obligated to spend every bit of income, every pay period; 6) give some income to worthwhile causes and save some for yourself (eg., for a rainy day, for your old age). Make paper mache eggs for gifts. Cut a small hole in the bottom. Your customer then places money inside the egg and tapes the hole closed. Present this as a gift with a note to the recipeint to create a nest egg for retirement or a rainy day. Wishing Wells as Props When you become a consultant and make speeches make certain that you use a wishing well as a prop. Use one in your classrooms. Put a cover on the top and use it to display books about saving money. Add a potted plant with dollars hanging from it. Call it a growing money tree, Better yet, add a real money tree. Sell them while you are at it. Take orders or sell them on the spot. Every classroom in America should have wishing well and money trees -- from day care all the way through graduate school. PTA's in elementary school should help parents learn how to save money for their children. You can hire yourself out as the speaker all across America -- and beyond. Every teacher has the skills (or access to skills from a spouse, student, or fellow teacher) to put together a wishing well by following the instructions from the resources listed below.
